Have been mulling this over since I read your comment. You're right, life then was based more on quality over quantity, a slower pace, and an emphasis on thoughtfulness which threads through many of these.
Yes! Thank you. It is so difficult - and more so than ever before - for younger generations to understand what life was like for older generations. My mother was born 1921, genteel upper working class. My father was born 1904, orphaned age 4, and lived a huge self-made Jack London type life. My husband also has an incredible life story growing up in Spain and they still have a much slower and “curated” lifestyle which I love♥️
I sat in front of a 84 year old lady in church this morning with arm bracelets that clacked together when she turned the pages in her well worn Bible, and she wore a fashionable green dress and big pearly earrings, and I personally think that is the height of chicness.
Sana, this is such a beautiful list of chic things and I especially loved your anecdote at the start!! I feel like I could visualize the chic woman you were inspired by and her well curated home/life through your words. Signature clothing, homes with character, respecting those working in the service industry, and good manners are high up on my list, too!! x
Life used to be like this in the 1960’s.

This list reminds me of an older cousin who was always very chic but also very approachable.

Loved cross referencing your thoughts 😌 Perhaps taking a book to a cafe will make it less intimidating for a solo date ♥️.
Hi Sana! Good idea. When people see a woman alone, somewhere, often think she’s looking for company 🙄

This, all of this 🤍
Love this visual because I talk with my hands and know exactly what you mean.
