I created this moodboard at the end of last week, when "second winter" (a dreaded thing) seemed to finally be over. As piles of snow began to melt slowly into dark brown puddles everywhere, I felt spring coming.
I thought I'd deconstruct some of the images from my rainy, dreamy moodboard because here on Substack, we get granular and specific, which is SO my energy.
For me, hair has always been as much a part of an outfit or look as any piece of clothing. It tells a personal story and is unique to each individual. As someone with thick, wavy hair that frizzes at the first sign of moisture, I loved this image of long, messy curls. I am much more drawn visually to this type of natural hair than overly styled looks - though I do appreciate a good blowout or beach wave.
The fishtail braid feels romantic and youthful - after a long winter, rainy weather signals new beginnings.
I pinned a lot of images of silk scarves. I've seen them in many street-style pictures lately and want to bring some of my pieces back into rotation. I love the picture (and outfit) of Camille from Emily in Paris. She was the style star for me that first season. The way her scarf is tied and tucked into her black jean jacket is perfection. Easy but elegant.
Skinny silk scarves are also incredibly chic. I have an old black Donni one, but this image with the butter yellow is perfect for spring. Bonus points for tucking your hair in.
A modern trench, i.e., single or double breasted, oversized, maybe long, maybe short, feels like the moment. I bought the perfect one last weekend on a fluke at Massimo Dutti and can't wait to wear it a hundred different ways. The trenches worn by the Moosgaard sisters have my heart, but those Danish brands and price points are currently out of my reach.
A cute or classic umbrella is a necessary item. I can't buy a nice umbrella, because I am always forgetting mine somewhere or the other. Only five dollar ones that fall apart at the first sign of wind for me.
Something about a skirt with a tiny print paired with a grey tee or sweater feels right for spring. Loafers or boots probably make more sense than the sandals in this picture. I’m also in my long hair phase, and am drawn to images that make it feel current and cool.
Finally, cream or white jeans. I have to say, I don't know how practical this is for wet weather and city streets. White jeans (in spring) may be an online trend that isn't practical for real life. Nevertheless, it looks fresh and light, and perhaps you drive or muddy splatters don’t bother you!
Thanks for joining me on this moody, pre-spring, visual journey. I hope you’re inspired for the season ahead. And hello to all the new subscribers. I’m so happy you’re here!
Lots of love,
Sana

Moody, pre-spring inspo is so fitting for the weather right now. I loved this! Currently, on the hunt for ecru/off-white jeans for the summer because I agree, they’re not ideal for the spring (especially in Canada!) X
Loved this, sana! And the “shit it’s raining” photo really made me laugh! I’m in MTL and praying for no more snow - was in TO last week and was thrilled about the lack of snow left compared to here! Although, I love a trench - I feel like there is approx 3 weeks of the year I can wear it in Canada?! 😂
